International Society of the Built Environment

Education

ISBE is a registered company limited by guarantee meaning that the society is a non-profit organisation and any extra income would be used to fund students from a developing country to undertake postgraduate and PhD study in the UK. 

The society has a close association with the following universities in the UK:
  • University of Reading
  • Brunel University
  • Cranfield University.
We have plans to develop MSc and Post Graduate Diploma courses as well as short courses on subject areas related to Environmental Engineering, Building Management, Indoor Environmental Quality and Health, Sustainable Materials and Built Environment. These would further the missions and aims of the society to promote the knowledge transfer and education of future building practitioners, architects, environmental building technologists, building managers and designers, environmental consultants and assessors, research and development and environmental risks scientists.
  • Environmental building regulations and policies including BREEAM and Code for Sustainable Homes and other building environmental assessment schemes such as LEED and Hong Kong BEAM.
  • Indoor air quality and guidelines
  • Sustainable materials
  • Hazardous materials and exposure risks
  • Materials emissions and risk assessment
  • Environmental impact assessment (air Quality and urban pollution, water quality, foul water drainage and water demand assessment)
  • Building pathology
  • Thermal insulation and moisture risks
  • Ambient air monitoring and strategies
  • Hidden toxic mould
  • Building and occupational hygiene
  • Sanitation, water quality and wastewater drainage
  • Environmental engineering: acoustics, lighting, natural ventilation, HVAC, energy efficiency, building air-tightness and thermal comfort
  • Social environment and Housing
  • Human factors and perception and environmental criteria for building design.
